Hail is a 4-channel video, 6-channel audio installation responding to moments of pleasure within the techno culture and underground club scene that rapidly expanded in South Korea from the late 1990s. One of the slogans representing the fundamental ethos of early rave parties is PLUR, which stands for Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect. It symbolises transcendent freedom and love, nationality, race, and gender. The strong sense of cohesion and connection of a temporary community that has chosen to raise their hands and share the energy of the here-and-now, envisions a world where we respect and coexist with the Other. The structured dance, applause, and pleasure captured in the video stimulate the desire to dance in the viewer’s body.
