Te Uru Waitākere Contemporary Gallery - Kalisolaite ‘Uhila
‘Uhila’s unspectacular performances often seek to promote a sense of understanding and togetherness.
Kalisolaite ‘Uhila was born in 1981 in the Kingdom of Tonga. He lives and works in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland. ‘Uhila’s practice draws on histories and strategies of performance for the production of durational performance works that are often informed by his Tongan heritage. Addressing issues such as tradition, masculinity, and cultural bias, among others, ‘Uhila’s unspectacular performances often seek to promote a sense of understanding and togetherness.
This will be his solo exhibition at Te Uru, the exhibition is in partnership with UNSW Galleries Sydney and will travel there after Tāmaki Makaurau.
