Circus, Theatre, Dance and Music – what’s on in Auckland this weekend.

Don’t let a little wind and rain put you off experiencing the Festival this weekend. Instead of trawling What’s on websites for something to do, we have you covered. If the weather clears up hang out in our Festival Garden and experience heaps of FREE live entertainment on the rova Sound Stage or stay warm and dry in a theatre or art gallery.

Here are this weekend’s highlights

Swan Lake – gone wild!

Duck Pond
Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre | 12-15 March

The effervescent Circa team are back in Tāmaki with their brilliant mash up of Swan Lake and The Ugly Duckling, circus style! Great entertainment for the whole family and with $30 tickets for under 30’s perfect for the whole family.

Magic happens when food and theatre come together

A Place in the Sultan’s Kitchen
Q Theatre | 12-15 March

Nothing fights the grey sky blues like a charming family tale and a taste of delicious curry. A Place in the Sultan’s Kitchen (or How to Make the Perfect One-Pot Chicken Curry) gives you both of these, in an awe inspiring one hour.

We LOVE Raving!

The Butterfly Who Flew Into The Rave
Q Theatre | 12-14 March

Skip the lines and come into Q to watch a trio of hardcore ravers jam a three day rave into 60 minutes. This is an electrifying non-stop dance performance created and performed by Oli Mathiesen accompanied by Lucy Lynch and Sharvon Mortimer. If you get tickets to Thursday or Friday night come pack at 10pm Saturday night to take part in the RAVING OVATION. An actual rave post the Saturday show (which is already sold out!).

Up and coming Aotearoa Playwrites

He Kākano Play Readings
Q Theatre | 12-15 March

Aotearoa is setting the world on fire with our young playwrites and here is your chance to see two rehearsed readings from Alex Medland and Rainton Oneroa.

Marmite and Honey by Rainton Oneroa (Te Aupōuri) is set at a tangi over 24 hours where secrets and feuds are revealed as a family gathers to farewell one of their own.

Becoming Jeff Bezos by Alex Medland (Kāi Tahu) reflects how it would feel to be confronted by extreme capitalism if you have had no contact with the outside world.
