The Picture of Dorian Gray

Our first international show reveal of Te Ahurei Toi o Tāmaki | Auckland Arts Festival (AAF) 2023 is here!

We are thrilled to share that AAF, in association with Auckland Live, will feature a strictly limited season of Sydney Theatre Company’s smash hit The Picture of Dorian Gray, the sensation that has coined the “cine-theatre” genre and taken Australia by storm.

Immoral. Immortal. Immense. The Picture of Dorian Gray is an odyssey of theatrical storytelling. A scintillating mix of cutting-edge theatre design, lush period drama, and astonishing integrated video, this breath-taking production sees a single performer – the “out of this world” (Limelight) Eryn Jean Norvill – play a total of 26 characters in an audacious cascade of theatrical transformations.

STC’s Artistic Director Kip Williams has adapted Oscar Wilde’s century-old fable of beauty – and a deal with the devil – to create a magnificent mirror of our times.

Hailed as a “dizzyingly beautiful tour de force” (The Guardian), this justifiably hyped play continues to be met with widespread critical acclaim. It’s been called a “once in a lifetime triumph of theatre” (Beat Magazine) and “a dazzling masterpiece no one should miss” (The Age). He mahi toi whakamīharo tēnei!

Pre-sale tickets are available to AAF and My Ticketmaster members now, with general sale beginning Fri 21 October, 9am.

Kaua e wareware: we also have three exciting local works – Requiem, The Unruly Tourists, and He Kete Waiata – with tickets already on sale.

Our full AAF programme will be announced in late November.
