Great Hall, Auckland Town Hall

Auckland Town Hall is a prominent civic landmark of neo-Baroque style. Taking pride of place on Queen Street in Auckland’s CBD, it is known both for its original and ongoing use for administrative functions for Council as well as its famed Great Hall and Concert Chamber.

Great Hall was modelled on the famous Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Germany. The space is roughly a double-cube in proportions, with a 17-metre high ceiling.

This majestic space has been a popular venue for rock n roll since the early days of the genre - great acoustics make both classical and modern music sound gorgeous. The Beatles played four shows here in two days in 1964. As well as the Fab Four, The Who, The Rolling Stones and Elton John are just a few of the names who graced the stage earlier in their careers.

Parking

Auckland Transport manages the carparks close to our venues, such as Civic carpark.

If you are driving in to see a show, please come early, and consider using alternative car park options in the central city. The Civic Carpark can fill up very quickly on show nights.

Taxi Rank & Drop Off

Closest taxi rank is located outside the Town Hall on Queen Street.

You’ll find the Auckland Town Hall at 301 – 317 Queen Street, next to Aotea Square.
It is a well-known landmark built in the neo-Baroque style, and has been at the centre of the city’s political and cultural life since its opening in 1911. Taking pride of place on Queen Street in Auckland’s city centre pokapū tāone, it is known both for its original and ongoing use for administrative functions for the Auckland Council as well as its famous Great Hall and Concert Chamber. Attractive stained-glass windows, original kauri floors, ornate plasterwork, and spectacular chandeliers combine to make this a beautiful venue.

The Town Hall has step free access through the main entrance on Queen Street.
The Box Office is to the right of the Queen Street entrance just as you come into the building. It opens 90 minutes before the start of each performance.

The main entrance will take you to the Ground level, where you can access the circle seating area of the Great Hall, and also the Concert Chamber.
There is a glass lift in the central atrium (next to the box office), which provides access to other levels. 
From the Aotea Square entrance there is step free access to the Lower Ground level where you can access the stalls seating area of the Great Hall.

There are accessible toilets on lower ground floor.

There are usually accessible seating areas in both the Stalls and Circle levels of the Great Hall, and in the Concert Chamber, however this does depend on the seating arrangement of the event you are attending.

Hearing Loop
There is a hearing aid loop available for all shows. To connect to the hearing loop, switch your hearing aids to ‘tele’.

Service dogs are welcomed

There is a grassed area nearby on the Aotea Square grass terraces.
Staff can provide water for Service dogs on request.

Mobility Carparks nearby

The Civic Car Park is nearby (under Aotea Square) and there is entry to the carpark from Greys Avenue or Mayoral Drive.

The lifts at the Town Hall corner of the carpark will take you to just outside the Town Hall (Greys Ave entrance).

There are 20 mobility parking spots available, with locations as below:

Level 1 opposite Aotea Centre entry doors - 5x spaces, numbers 244 -248

Level 1 opposite Aotea Centre entry doors (next to the yellow booth) 4x spaces, numbers 207 - 210

Level 1 Town Hall corner 1x large space, number 271

Level 1 Sky Metro corner 5x spaces, numbers 9-13

Level 2 Town Hall corner 2x spaces

Level 3 Town Hall corner 3x spaces

During standard hours, the first 2 hours of mobility parking are free with usual rates applied afterwards. After 6pm and on weekends, mobility parking is free. Take your mobility card and entry ticket to a pay machine, and press the help button. 

Drop off points

The best drop off area is on Queen Street approximately 10 metres from the main entrance to the Auckland Town Hall.
There is also a drop off area on level 1 as you enter the Civic Carpark.

There are two courtesy wheelchairs available at the venue if you or someone you’re coming with has mobility needs.

Other accessibility information

For every show, patrons with access requirements can call Ticketmaster on 09 970 9745 any time before 5pm on the day of the show and they will make sure the front of house team is aware of your requirements.
